The man himself was really touched by the comments left here and especially by this one from Dan.

Hey… what a nice statement!
I am in Sunderland in England with my soon to be wife and I’ve just read your message and I’m extremely flattered. As guitar players go we all hopefully play from the same songbook but some of us have a distinctive sound. I suppose I just worked harder and longer than most people. That doesn’t mean to say that Brian May and Bill Nelson are still not my greatest influences because they are- you’ve just got to try a little bit better and try and become as good as they are!!!Love and kisses- goodnight and God bless

“Mrs. Soon-To-Be-Wife Reynolds” — AHHHHH!! It has a ring. Heh! Sorry, Paul: if I knew her name, I’d congratulate her personally, or have you/someone do it; she’s marrying a creative, talented, strong man with —> A Purpose For His Life!
Congratulations, and a lifetime of happiness!
Wow! this is most excellent news. congratulations Paul!
Congratulations Reno! I am happy for you, and whoever she is.
I’m glad you liked my comment. Congratulations on getting married. I’ve no wedding gifts to give you other than the wishes for a truly happy life together.
Good luck, you two. Don’t forget to take out the trash, Reno.
Just stumbled upon this site and wanted to add my heartfelt congratulations! I hope you two will have a long and happy life together! (and yes, this is me) x
Hello Paul – While I’ve sort of been out of the loop, you are never far from my thoughts and well wishes. I’ve just now come back to see that things have changed and for the best. I wish you much happiness with your bride to be, it’s a step into a world where you both grow together stronger and as one. Congratulations!
Cheers
Victoria
Yeah but who’s the best man eh, eh?#

Paul,
I have always loved your style of guitar! I was about 10 years old when I first heard the song, “I Ran”. Still love it! I am new to this site and started reading up on some of the postings. Congrats to you on your engagement. God Bless (to the both of you)!
You are truly one of the great sparse guitarists from that period when we were all truly fed up of egomaniac guitarists showing off. Instead I love your sparse style because it blends perfectly with the feel of the song and you seagulls work as a unit. In fact I have put I Ran through wavelab and used echo twice and it has created an awesome effect. It has far too many megabytes for me to send to you personally down the internet but if you leave some sort of address I will post it to you. I may have deleted it out of my files for the sake of space but rest assured I know how to re-master the tune in a way that I still find awesome. The more versions you hear the more you love, the more you live. To quote one of the greatest bands of all time.
Remeber thatr Reno, you were/ are in one of the greatest bands of all time. When you stop playing guitar you lose that delicate touch and you wonder why you are unhappy. However, when you get the touch back it as if God has returned to you and your limits are endless.
I have done loads of songs and if you want to work on mine down the internet, it would be a great honour to me. It is like this: thousands of people are in bands and they are fairly shite. A flock of seagulls are as good as or if not better than the Beatles. Laugh but it is true. It’s not me talking has to be an all time great with awesome drumming.
I have given you my details. I am 51 years of age and I have released lots of free cd’s of my songs and mixes and beats. Feel free to contact me. I was a punk too. Unfortunately, I missed afos in their prime as I was in Holland and you were probably in the uk and the states you have had a great deal of success and that guitar is awesome. Maybe you could help me with technical aspects of what guitar you had and what effects you used.
You were the unique one. The one of four who developed that sound. Nobody else.
I could go on about it forever.
Of course the synths and the drum synth beats and drumming etc. were awesome. Lots of bands cannot think outside the box and keep knocking out those turgid riffs that everyone can play but you did it right everytime.
I can assure you this is not a bullshit story. You can forget how many years it took to take people to a form of heaven and a flock of seagulls are heaven in a gig.
Keep in touch. I have a friend who would nearly drop dead if I told him you could oversee our projects and maybe contribute to our sound.
Surprise surprise. I have downoaded A flock of seagulls yet again from itunes when I know I should use my Ares p2p fileshare only itunes has all these ace remixes and I cannot resist a flock of seagulls. Tell me why I do not download The Beatles ? Tell me. Because they did not have that high-tech, futuristic freshness of afos. That is why and as for McCartney’s solo songs. No chance he missed the boat years ago. OMD and thomas lang were liverpool’s other greats. Thomas lanf did Feels so right which IS AWESOME.
CORRECTION Thomas Lanf is a spelling error and should read Thomas Lang. I bought it on cassette for 50p and downloaded it via Ares p2p. I hope you guys get all your royalties as my view is that you all share the royalty. Devilishly enough some artist try to snaffle up the whole of the copyright to themselves. I hope renno is getting his quarteer share. I call you renno as reno is a place in america and pronounced differently. I was playing along to space age love song today and it is not easy at all. You need great and dear equipment and a fine touch which you lose if you do not practice. NO FOLKS, AFOS ARE IN MY TOP TEN OF ALL TIME WITH new order, the mission, the sisters of mercy, utah saints etc. Cocteau twins, the cure, the cult, bauhaus and another 2 I will have to think about. thanks for having a website reno. I still download and I still like the best of british. Oh yes, the clash and the pistols and Joy Division. What american bands compare to that load of genius ? They are almost as smart as the double-decker bus.
Hi Paul:
I was close to the same age as you when I saw you open for The Police and The Fixx in Foxborough, MA (1983). It was my first concert, and I was sitting in the back corner of the stadium. MTV was there hosting, and I remember your riffs echoing through nearly a hundred thousand people. What a great, first concert experience!
It was your style that turned me on to bands like Cocteau Twins and New Order. Thanks for the great memories and glad to see you’re doing well and still down to earth.
Best to ya,
Chad in Japan
