    This was awesome! Loved seeing Paul Reynolds, he’s one of the best guitarists I’ve ever heard. I wish they would put this out on DVD along with all of AFOS’s videos. ;o}

Paul, I think you are one of the best guitarists ever. I play the drums and now I really want to play the guitar like you did. I listen to your music every day and I never get tired of listening to it. Your guitar work in I ran, Space Age Love Song, and D.N.A is just amazing. Thanks for inspiring me to play the guitar.

Ah, Life. Sometimes you’re climbing a mountain, and sometimes you’re climbing a mountain with a Volvo tied to your testicles. Either way, it’s just all uphill, eh?

The funny thing is, Paul: in the 80’s, I wasn’t a very big fan of A Flock of Seagulls, and, I hate to say it, after you guys broke up, your band was easily forgotten from my life, for the most part. Then, I saw that Bands Reunited episode, and it hit me full in the chest, and your back story alone moved me to tears, and I found myself rooting for you as though you were some sort of underdog clawing his way back into the ring. And, for the first time in my life, I cheered at the TV as though I was sitting in the front row of that show.

Who knew the quietest guy in the group had the most to say?

Nonetheless, I do certainly hope to see you playing again, and I sure wouldn’t mind sitting down and plowing through a few tunes with you. Your style on the guitar is fascinating. On the surface, it sounds so simple, but then I really listen to the mechanics, and you play with a precision and an elegance that is all but extinct in this day and age. Let’s face it, a great many guitarists these days play their instruments with all the subtlety of a New Year’s Eve drunk with a freakin’ party favor.

So, I’m pretty damn certain I’m not the only one on this planet wondering “Where’s Reno?”

I marvel at the effect music has on one’s memory. I remember quietly imagining a different reality while listening to A Flock of Seagulls in my early teen years. I was a latch key kid, spent a lot of time alone. I loved the music because I played it when I was alone in my house when my mom worked at night. A kind of escapism I suppose. I enjoyed the guitar so much. I was fairly young and didn’t really have a reference for the lyrical content, but it was the guitar that comforted me. All these years I’ve owned copies and copies of this music. It’s familiar to me, like my childhood. I don’t know the man, but I know that sound when I hear it. Thank you, I just have to say your talent has touched a corner of my life in such a positive way. On lighter note, I emulated your hair-style,stoic smile, and I had a shirt like the yellow one you’re wearing in your myspace photo, but mine was magenta. I had glasses like yours too! I thought your images were adorable. I always wished that I could find the music with out the lyric, the instrumental, I guess you would call it. Not to disrespect the vocalists, I just mentally filtered them out so I could hear the guitar. I was suprised to see you on myspace and was happy to see a nice smile in a few of your photos. Yay. I also saw the reunion show, my daughter recorded it for me. I realize that life happens to all of us. Not like I’m anyone to comment on your life. I just think happy thoughts in your direction, I hope that you will be further blessed, its a kind of happiness to think you’re finding joy. Thank you for sharing your craft.-Meda

I had to come and leave a comment because you have always been my big sisters crush since she was 10. From ‘84 when my father took her to the record shop, she bought the Flock of Seagulls albums, not only because she loved the music but she loved Paul Reynolds. So now, 2007, she still talks about how great Paul is. This wasn’t until my father passed away last year that brought all these memories back to my sister, my father listened to the flock of seagulls because of my sister and greatly enjoyed them. The point of this post is that your music is greatly appreciated, I wish you the best and hope you make more music! Thanks! Michelle

    Heya Paul,

I had no idea you were that young when you made those tunes. Wonderful melodies.

I received a decent guitar for my 40′th and guess whose couple of tunes I learned first???

I have a question you MUST answer reallly bad, how did you get that sound? A harmonizer? Unique chorus? Reverb/echo? Settings?

    Thanks chief!

    Dear Paul,

I remember the first time I ever saw one of your videos. I was at my brothers house playing Sing Star 80’s with my niece, and we were scrolling through songs when my brother said, “Is that Flock of Seagulls’ I Ran? Do that one.” I was skeptical, since i didn’t know the lyrics (which is sad, since I grew up listening to 80’s music), but soon came to realize that the song was familiar to me from the radio. I was working with the pitch when the screen shifted to you, and such curiosity rose in me, that I found myself concentrating more on the picture than the game itself.

That night, I went home and sat at the computer looking up all of AFOS’s videos on You Tube. The more and more I watched, the more I found myself entranced by your image. I had never seen such an exciting guitarist! Most guitarist pride themselves in the deftness of their hands, and their ability to belt tunes out of their instrument, but you treated your guitar like it was extension of your arms. Like it a part of you. Never before had i seen that in a modern rock star.

It was amazing how in four hours A Flock of Seagulls became my favorite band in the world.

After poking around a bit, I found your reunion tour video,
and I was absolutely moved. I couldn’t believe all the stuff you went through, and the only thing I could think was of how happy I was that you had such a good head on your shoulders.

In a few words, I guess I am trying to say that you are most definitely my idol, and I hope you are living happily, and don’t for one second ever doubt yourself!

    Much Loves Forever,
    Noel
